| He became world wide known when he was awarded
with the Nobel Prize for his epos "Chlopi" in 1924. In 1896 he
came to Lodz to collect material for "Ziemia Obiecana". In order
to learn more about everyday life conditions of simple workers he worked in a factory
for many months. In his novel "Ziemia Obiecana" (1899) he described
rapid development of the factory owners' fortunes, the collapse of smaller
firms, hopes of Lodz citizens for making quick fortune and hard work of
simple people. It is not only a novel, but also a social panoramic documentary. |
